Common questions

What is Delay Repay?

Delay Repay is the national scheme that pays you back part of your fare when your train arrives late, whatever caused the delay. Each train company runs its own version and sets whether it pays from 15 or 30 minutes.

How long do I have to claim?

Usually 28 days from the date you travelled. Claim as soon as you can, and keep your ticket or booking confirmation.

Do I have to pay anyone to claim?

No. You claim directly from the train company for free, online or by post. Claims companies take a cut of money you could get yourself.

Does it count if the delay wasn't the train company's fault?

Yes, for Delay Repay. It pays whatever the cause, including weather and other companies' problems. A few schemes, like TfL's, don't pay for things outside their control.

What about taxis or hotels?

Delay Repay only covers your ticket. If the delay left you with extra costs, you can ask the train company to consider them under the Consumer Rights Act. Read how.
