About Train Delay
An independent UK guide that answers one question: my train was late, what am I owed?
Why this site exists
Each train company sets its own Delay Repay rules and publishes them on its own website, so it's hard to know what you're owed. This site puts every company's rules in one place and works out your claim. It's run by an independent UK writer. We aren't a train company or a claims company, we don't take a fee, and you always claim directly from the train company.
Where the rules come from
We checked every train company's own Delay Repay or compensation page on 23 October 2026. Where a company's page couldn't be read in full, the train company page says so and explains where the figures came from. Rules can change, so always check the company's own page, linked from each of our pages, before you claim.
How the calculator works
- Single and pay as you go: the company's percentage of the fare you paid.
- Return: the company's percentage of the whole return fare.
- Season tickets: the ticket price divided by 10 (weekly), 40 (monthly), 464 (annual) or 16 (Flexi) to get one journey's value, then the company's percentage. For 2 hours or more, most companies pay a full return (two journeys).
Results are estimates. The train company makes the final decision on your claim.
